Jimmy Van M - Balance 010

Label: EQ Grey| Release Date: 10/30/2006

Balance celebrates its milestone tenth release with Jimmy Van M's epic three-disc journey through two decades of electronic music, where legends like Brian Eno, Bill Laswell, Depeche Mode, Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada and Thievery Corporation cosy up alongside today's finest dance artists including Michael Mayer, Ellen Allien, LCD Soundsystem, Trentemøller, Booka Shade and Oliver Lieb. With names previously featured including James Holden, Chris Fortier, Phil K and Desyn Masiello amongst others, Balance has become one of the most popular compilation brands, and this landmark release looks set to reflect that perfectly.

Since it's inception back in 2001, EQ Recordings' Balance series has become one of the most consistent and recognised, initially showcasing homegrown talent such as Sean Quinn, Kasey Taylor and Phil K before breaking free of its Australian roots and introducing international names such as James Holden, Chris Fortier, Desyn Masiello and Paolo Mojo to the fold. Now, as the Balance series reaches it's milestone tenth release, they are proud to welcome one of the true progenitors of dance music to the roster, Jimmy Van M.

Whilst his roots lie in Orlando, Florida, at a time when pretty much the who's who of dance music toured through the area, Jimmy's achievements reach much further within the spectrum of the dancefloor, with his creative talents not only laying behind the decks, but also as businessman, originating the idea of the Balance Promote Agency in America, and helping to bring such luminaries as John Digweed and Sasha to America, via their residency at Twilo and later collectively creating the Delta Heavy Tour concept.

"Jimmy helped trigger so much for me. From his vision to advance forward thinking music to his tireless efforts to make things happen, on every level. As a DJ his programming and taste in music has always been an inspiration." - Sasha

Behind the decks, his reputation in Orlando, for endlessly layering and building sets in his own characteristic and suggestive style soon grew, and coupled with his taste for ever-changing and advanced styles of dance music, soon took him from his local area and onto the far reaches of the globe, with his success reflected with the release of two mix compilations, 'Trance Nation America' in 2000, and his highly regarded 'Bedrock: Compiled & Mixed' CD in 2001, making Balance 010 his third compilation, and his first in several years.

'Balance 010' sees Jimmy Van M create an epic three-disc journey through two decades of electronic music, where legends like Brian Eno, Bill Laswell, Depeche Mode, Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada and Thievery Corporation cosy up alongside today's finest dance artists including Michael Mayer, Ellen Allien, LCD Soundsystem, Trentemøller, Booka Shade and Oliver Lieb.

"Jimmy is one of those DJs that when I hear him play, I always want to know the majority of his tracks. He has an incredible ear to search out undiscovered music and programme it in a way to mess with your mind. In my opinion Jimmy is up there with the best" - John Digweed

While he has eschewed residencies in favour of global travel he has not only kept up with the most recent trends in dance music, in many ways he has once again helped shape those changes with his persistent vision of forward thinking dance music, proving that Jimmy Van M is still very much a force to be reckoned with and indisputably relevant in today’s dance music scene.
