Out Now on Excentric Muzik

Not to be confused with the pop singer from the Black Eyed Peas, Robert Ferguson is a DJ and producer from Ireland who once upon a time was involved with the hard house scene. Thankfully his sound has matured since then and these days you'll find his tracks in the boxes of some of the most respected DJs across the planet. 'Break In' was released on the 'Break In/Break Out EP' in early 2008 and here we are presented with two remixes on the original.

The first remix comes from Adam Shaw who first appeared on the scene in late 2008 with a release on Joel Zimmerman's (aka Deadmau5) label Mau5trap Recordings. The remix is a bouncy and minimal-ish affair which also sports a nice breakdown that builds up a fair bit of energy. Whilst it could serve as a nice warm up track, there is really not a lot of direction to the production and this one could easily be forgotten amongst a sea of very similar sounding productions emerging lately.

UK outfit Bigger Than Jesus throw down the better of the two remixes sporting their trademark dark and dirty sound on the production. Some high ranged synths are thrown against a platter of eerie effects and haunting riffs which rest upon a throbbing bass foundation. The result is a track which is complex and beautiful, and quite unique in many ways. Bigger Than Jesus have not yet disappointed me once and I recommend keeping an eye on their forthcoming releases.

The work of Bigger Than Jesus on this release proves that the original had strong remix potential and sadly I felt that this wasn't exploited heavily enough by Adam Shaw. However this should not at all steer you away as you will be certainly missing out if you don't give the Bigger Than Jesus remix a spin. Things are looking positive for both Fergie and Bigger Than Jesus in 2009, so be sure to watch out for future releases from both.
