Pole Folder - Destinations
Label: friskyRecords| Release Date: 4/15/2008Almost 7 years after the first beat was broadcast, friskyRadio has grown into a global Internet Radio powerhouse that is home to over 200 resident DJs from all over the world ranging from emerging talent to industry veterans broadcasting to over 126 countries and thousands of listeners every day…friskyRecords will continue the journey in bringing you the best that electronic music has to offer.
Global Internet Radio powerhouse friskyRadio is proud to announce the launch of its new label imprint friskyRecords. Forming a symbiotic relationship between radio and label properties, frisky has recruited its own resident DJ and international superstar Pole Folder (AKA Belgium’s Benoit Franquet) to helm the flagship mix CD release Destinations.
As a title for this CD, Destinations works on a number of levels. The most obvious connection being that Destinations is the name of Pole Folder’s own radio show which airs only on friskyRadio every second Thursday of each month. Each show is recorded live in clubs from destinations all over the world and offers a true account of Pole Folder’s current DJ sets. The title also reflects how much Pole Folder has experienced as both a DJ and electronic music fan in many destinations around the world. Memories like discovering Sasha and John Digweed’s Northern Exposure for the first time provided Pole Folder with a feeling that many of us will relate to and never want to lose.
The last time we heard Pole Folder on CD, it was in the role of a producer. His debut artist album Zero Gold was released in 2005 on John Digweed’s Bedrock label and it garnered acclaim with journalists and fans alike. Fast forward almost three years later and Destinations provides a vehicle for Pole Folder to showcase his skills as DJ for the first time ever on CD. Crafted much like his radio show of the same name, Destinations offers a true and up to the minute representation of the global progressive house scene. Given complete artist control over the project, Pole Folder pairs his own “Eastern Lagoon” with tracks from the likes of Leon Bolier, Kevin Yost, Andy Moor & Michael Wilson, Henry Cullen, Deep Mariano, DJ Yellow & Astrid Suryante, Spektre and Tiger Stripes, among others.
Frisky Radio was launched in 2001 when streaming media engineer and dance music aficionado Faisal Sultan (fondly referred to by friends and colleagues as “Frisky”) started broadcasting DJ Mixes he was listening to online. Realising that friskyRadio could be a vehicle for the struggling bedroom DJ to reach a potentially global audience, he opened the stream up to submissions and started playing mixes from DJs residing all over the world. Over the years, Faisal has continually maintained friskyRadio in his own free time, and with the generous donations from fans all over the world he has been able to grow the radio station into one of the top-most listened to stations for underground electronic music on the web.
Today, almost 7 years after the first beat was broadcast, friskyRadio has grown into into a global Internet Radio powerhouse that is home to over 200 resident DJs from all over the world ranging from emerging talent to industry veterans broadcasting to over 126 countries and thousands of listeners every day. The “Get Frisky!” brand of parties bring this passion for the music to the dance floor in cities like Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Budapest, Osaka, Vienna, and even Aruba, making it a truly global phenomenon.
