16 Bit Lolitas "Take My Life / Put It In"

Out Now on Deep Records

With a debut release on Extrema Records, the Dutch collective 16 Bit Lolitas return with their second single, this time on another of Holland's fine labels, Deep Records. This time around we get two tracks, both of which showcase the diverse sounds that this collective have been putting together over the last few months. With many labels such as Alternative Route and Yoshitoshi sitting up and taking notice, it looks as though great things are coming for the trio of Patrick Willer, Peter Kriek and Ariaan Olieroock, but in the meantime you need to check out these two tracks.

Bouncing beats and smooth chords drift lazily into a rolling groove where a mesmerizing piano line soon emerges. The opening moments of 'Take My Life' are something special indeed and when main groove gets underway you find yourself drawn into the intoxicating groove. Breathy vocal fills and a main vocal courtesy of Jenny Willemstijn soon have you hooked. Deep rhythms and chords shuffle around with a subtle bassline lifting the tempo and mood perfectly into the final section where dreamy melodies and chimes rise up, adding an heavenly backdrop for the enchanting vocal that brings things to a close.

'Put It In' sees the Lolitas get down and funky, a vibrant rolling bassline providing an uptempo playground for big keys and horns to come out and play. This is one seriously jiving cut that builds and builds, layer upon layer of keys floating to the top of the bass and back down again, and if you are looking for something to switch the tempo of your set quickly, this potent little number serves that purpose perfectly, and with an added ambient DJ version of 'Take My Life' also gracing the b-side, you have no excuse for not finding something that floats your boat here.

Another top release from Deep, whom seem to be on an unstoppable roll at the moment, finding some of the finest and in many cases overlooked talents who are really pushing the boundaries when it comes to good music, and the 16 Bit Lolitas are a collective who look set for great things in the coming months. Without a doubt this will not be the last time see them appear on Deep.
