Aphasia "Acapulco (Remixes Part One)"

Out Now on Hooj Choons

The latest Hooj release comes from another of New York's rising stars, Leo Lipsztein. As part of Intuition NYC's roster, Leo is their most in demand dj, having built himself quite an impressive reputation for spinning quality music each time he plays. Previous production form has seen him work alongside another artist who has appeared on Hooj, as he and Phil 'Jas' Jason collaborated as the Semi Hetero Sapiens for an EP on Low Pressings. However Leo is quite the capable producer in his own right, as this single, 'Acapulco' under his Aphasia guise proves.

The first remix of 'Acapulco' comes from Chris and Kai. This much respected NYC dj duo really do the business, dropping in some big drums which add a 'big room' peak time vibe to the track. A wild and twitching bassline keeps things moving at a fair old place, as percussive loops and a robotic style vocal gel with the other elements, dropping to a sublime melodic solo, before a siren conceals the ascension of the groove into a melodic and ballsy outro which will send tremors across the floor. Quality work from this duo who you will be hearing a lot more of in the coming months.

Of course, such an impressive start to the package is going to be hard to follow, but the responsibility falls to Sean Cusick with his 'Q6 Mix'. Intoxicatingly deep beats and a moody bassline provide the perfect platform for Sean to weave in atmospheric swirls and string sections that both accompany the main melody hook of the original resulting into a mix that is quite frankly a gorgeous slice of electro, but then again a mix of this caliber is par the norm for this talented producer. It's close, but this is 'the' mix of this disc, but the competition was tough.

I could go on and on and say a lot about this disc of remixes, but instead I will just say one, and that word is Magnificent. And it's not all either, as there's another disc that you may want to check out if this is tickling your musical taste buds, so be sure to keep an eye out for it.
