Bakony Scamp "House Come Save Me"

Out Now on Sumsonic Recordings

Bakony Scamp is a new artist to the Sumsonic label, which has previously been host to the material of Chris Gainer, Mark O Brien and Paul Rogers exclusively, though that has been changing in recent months, as has the label's musical direction. 'House Come Save Me' is an even further departure from the sound associated with the label, bringing a more traditional house flavour to the fold. However, long standing Sumsonic fans need not fear, as The Sleepfreaks make their long awaited return with a remix on the flip.

The 'Original Mix' is slightly more chunky than fans of the label may be accustomed to, but a twisting analogue bassline brings the cool vibe to the track. Synth waves slide across the groove, with some quirky percussive layers and key changes affecting the summery melody that twinkles throughout. Rattling snares lift it through the break, before the groove rolls on, in a fashion that isn't too obvious, but will keep people grooving on the dancefloor.

However, the 'Sleepfreaks Mix' takes it off to another dimension completely, as the original's groove and bassline is beefed up right from the start, with some big bass elements dropped in at key moments to increase the energy of the mix even more. The main melody is kept to a sparse minimum as the guys choose to focus on the groove, driving harder and faster as the bass increases and the chunky groove gets tougher and tougher, with the traditional smooth sounds that have become a trademark prevalent throughout. A stunning homecoming from those freaks.

Something refreshing from the Sumsonic imprint, with the Sleepfreaks Mix just edging it for me over the original, but complimenting what is a solid house track at the same time, and it's diversity like this that will help evolve the label as it has in recent months.
