Behrouz "Azab"

Out Now on Shinichi Recordings

Behrouz is back with another ep for Yoshitoshi. Azab is another brilliant tribal monster that chugs along, and has some very trippy sounds. Luzon is on remix duties with a main vocal and a dub.

The ‘Behrouz Tribal’ mix starts out with his signature tribal drumming. There’s lots of changes within the drum patterns, and there’s a lot of different sounds. A deep man's voice comes in over the top of the drums. He comes in spooky and a bit muffled. A clap comes in and works its way in. Large stabs come in and work into the drums. The bassline is thick and heavy, and still had a chugging feel to it. There’s something that sounds ike laughing sounds in the background. A synth pad comes in over the top, and washes over the song bringing it to a close.

The ‘Original String and Reprise’ is a great piece of work. The ‘Original’ mix is very dark. A strong kick starts us up. A bubbly sound layers on top, and the voice makes it’s way in. He’s stern and dark and tickles the dark stabs. There’s a light shaker in the background to add flavor. The bass is long and drawn out, and the groove is very electronic sounding. There’s an electro feel to the whole theme of this tune. It goes into the full on voice and keeps it’s clubby momentum. A very nice original. The ‘Reprise’ is just a little string tool you could use for mixing and layering on top of other tracks or this one. You can be as creative as you can be with it.

The ‘Luzon Vocal’ mix opens with nice clangy drums. High hats come in, as well as a shaker sound underneath. The bassline erupts. It’s large, and heavy, and works it’s way in nicely. A voice starts to chime in. She’s trippy and only for a quick sample. A vocal scream goes over the top. We break down a bit as the bass pulses; we go into a nice deep funky stab. It works off the drums. The vibe is dark and sinister, and the girls voice comes in more then before. A loud sound comes in at the break, and pulls up and into the beats again. A disco sound emerges, and away we go once again.

The ‘Luzon Dub‘ is very similar to the vocal, just has a few pieces missing. The vocals are changed a bit, and filtered, and they never really show up. There seems to be a bit more focus on the drums, and the different layers of sound.

Behrouz has had a great career as a DJ and is now really breaking himself as one of Danny’s favorite producers. He knows good tribal music, and he makes good tribal music. Pick this up.
