Bs As Deep "Seasick"

Out Now on Emote Music

Argentina's Diego Colquhoun is the next name to grace Jacob Todd's Emote Music imprint with his work titled 'Seasick'. After the previous release on the label titled 'Cascadia', I really wasn't sure what to expect. But I was pleasantly surprised by the depth and groove on the release, which puts Emote back on track with their previous quality.

The original puts together lots of floating elements to create a bouncy atmosphere leaking a lot of groove whilst being deep at the same time. The melodies themselves are simple, but it is the way in which they are executed which counts, and they are worked into the composition with style. A solid track which holds up both technically and creatively.

Jacob Todd strips back the bounce and gives the track drive. He works up the samples in a very original way and allows the track to take on a whole new form. To add another layer of emotion, he also adds in his own melodies which give the track a more personal touch and also give it more meaning. The mix works well on the release, in that most people should find that they at least enjoy one of the mixes.

A well balanced release on Emote Music which showcases both some new talent, and reinforces how much Jacob Todd has grown as a producer in recent times. There seems to be a certain theme to the releases on Emote Music which often reminds me of older progressive music. It is highly refreshing to listen to, as in recent times everybody seems to be going for an electro flavour. If you appreciate what traditional progressive music has evolved from, then Emote Music may have just what you are looking for!
