Buick Project "Luminaire (Remixes)"
Out Now on Saved RecordsNic Fanciulli and Andy Chatterley's Buick Project alias has allowed them to create a cool new sound for themselves, a fusion of deep, tech and progressive house that has been earning them support from all corners of the dance scene. 'Luminaire' first appeared in charts and sets many moons ago, hiding in the record boxes of some of the DJ elite, and it’s also found it’s way onto compilations by such names as James Talk, Sandy Rivera and Dave Seaman.
'Luminaire' is a classy deep progressive house groover. Tiny melancholy synths bring us into warm analog bubble pads that play up the breaky drums full of toms and good highs, while a solid kick pumps on. Melodic stabs wiggle in there adding a retro vibe, while long strong synths jazz everything up. A sweet groove rides along before a crunchier mouthy electro sound comes in and prances until the peak of the tune. A cowbell steps in and works brilliantly with all the 808 drums and effects, making this what you remember and completing the mood. The tiny melancholy synths find their way back and the song fades away with the drums.
The Onionz Re-Rub, which can be found on James Talk's 'Thinking Out Loud' compilation, takes the analog bubbles deeper and lower creating a different feel. A good funky slow retro styled electro is played up, while the acidy bits blend in perfectly swirling in all sorts of directions. The synths are cut up and stab down through the beats while the toms create good fills. The mouthy sounds fade in while the tiny synths finally find their way into the mix. A very acidic hypnotic feel captures an old disco vibe until the end.
Silver City stripped 'Luminaire' back to a deep analog house vibe featuring all the original synths, but it all feels much warmer and spacier. A real deep bass has replaced the stomping funky feel of the original, and made it something more organic. Synths slice in through the beats building into a swingy groove that stops up and falls into a slappy guitar mood. The mouthy chucks are there playing with the acid and guitar before it all drops off into the melancholy synths once again.
Saved Records has had a bunch of fantastic releases thus far and have hit the mark yet again with 'Luminaire'. A lovely piece of music for those early warm-up sets, with lush analog synths and great grooves, featuring superb remixes by Onionz and Silver City.
