Cass & Mangan "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On"

Out Now on SAW Recordings

If the 'Shoes EP' wasn't perhaps one of the most surreal releases of the last few months, then this latest offering from Cass Cutbush and Tom Mangan on Satoshi Tomiie's SAW Recordings imprint most definitely is. Picking up right where 'Shoes..' left off, the mad as eggs duo return once more, this time lending the rub to 80s retro icon Robert Palmer, as they bring us their interpretation of the track 'I Didn't Mean To Turn You On'.

The 'Original' version is a mish mash of dirty basslines, electro stabs and subliminal synth riffs that rise through the background of the track. Underpinned by the cool and hypnotic vocal, the two London boys have managed to create a splendid little club anthem that steers away from all the possible pitfalls revising a Robert Palmer track could have brought, and is in fact very good indeed. Be it on a very wrong Sunday morning or late on a Saturday night - it's likely this track will be heard well into the summer months.

On the flip, the remix duties are passed to new boy Eames from Mangan's own Private Joy imprint. Going for the low slung, low end approach, 'I Didn't Mean..' is transformed into a simmering bass heavy version, with the slowed down tempo giving it that moody late night k-hole twist.

Once again, the rule book has been thrown out the window (along with the kitchen sink, a few knives, and what eggs they had left in the basket). Whether you're a fan of Cass & Mangan's output of late, or just looking for something refreshingly different than a lot of what is out there at the moment, you need to get on this and get turned on.
