Out Now on SAW Recordings

The latest single from Chab’s ‘Dubs, Edits & Whiskey-Coke’ is out this month on SAW Recordings. Chab’s ‘You & Me’ is the third single on Satoshi’s label and was the opening track on his debut long player. Chab has a large collection of originals but has also been heard through his remix talents as he has remixed Murk, Nelly Furtado, Weekend Players and PQM among others. SAW recognized talent when they signed Chab and as always, SAW delivers.

In my review of the Chab’s LP I said of ‘You & Me’ (Album Mix) that it “starts off the set with a mind bending theme that blends tippy trance elements with soul searching synths.” Well, let me give you a little more detail to this trancer. For almost two minutes, Chab introduces the track with a minimally bright beeping. Think electronic alarm clock. It is layered on a soft bass line and solid beat. There is no blatant beauty in the introduction elements, but the beauty is indeed delivered in a wash of synths. Balance is kept with a low grumbling bass line keeping the track from becoming bright and sparkly. After listening to Chab’s ‘Dubs, Edits & Whiskey-Coke’ over and over, it is very hard to hear this single without expecting “Closer To Me” to come sliding in towards the end. It is refreshing however to hear this single slow minimally to a halt leaving me in a feeling of peace.

The 12” Club mix is quite simply awesome. It is brilliant how Chab brings all of the elements from the Album Mix together in a new, tough, dark dance floor monster. The vocals, after being used over a brief build up moment, are cleverly layered over the chunky bass and beats adding a new level of rhythm that wasn’t heard in the Album Mix. The track fades out very nicely for over a minute leaving great opportunity for the dance floor DJ.

The Tool Mix contains the lush synth line balanced on the deep bass. DJs will be able to do a lot with this. Start a set, close a set, drop it at the peak, you name it. DJs are treated to almost 3 minutes of this.
