Christian Cambas Feat Karen Solomon "Obsession"
Out Now on Heavy RotationHaving wowed us with the incredible 'It Scares Me' on Bedrock Records, up and coming Greek producer Christian Cambas returns with the first of several new productions he has lined up for the coming months. The debut release on new London based label Heavy Rotation, 'Obsession' is another vocal led opus from Chris, this time featuring Karen Solomon on vocals. Whether it can follow in the footsteps of its predecessor and become another massive club bomb is unknown, so let's take a look.
The 'Dub Mix' is a hard hitting progressive-edged mix, solid beats and hypnotic grooves locking you into it's grip from the early opening. The vocal is spread thinly throughout, as the tempo builds slowly.and some deep, spacey melodic synths are used to build the tension level, heading into the break where the melody strikes like a serpent, biting hard as it leaps out of the speakers and onto the dance floor. This is the moment where the hidden secret of this mix comes to life, and the resulting euphoria you see before your eyes will tell you all you need to know.
Oddly, the 'Vocal Mix' seems to lose some of the dynamics that make the dub so great, taking a while to find it's footing, but never seeming to find the tempo that it's counterpart possesses. Nevertheless it's a decent little mix, but had it been more in the vein of the other mix, this would undoubtedly have been another massive track from Christian Cambas.
A promising debut, but just falling short of the greatness that was 'It Scares Me'. Nevertheless, sometimes things take time to develop, and as a foundation for things to come, Heavy Rotation are off to a fine start.
