Dan Mangan "Resorcerer / Pacifist"

Out Now on Trojan Records

Yet another reason Australia is one of the leading breeding grounds for great music, Dan Mangan has been stirring up his own blend of progressive grooves with his work with Jason Kelton (as Mortar & Pestle), Sean Quinn, and not to mention Luke Chable . Now ready to step out on his own, he delivers two tech-fueled numbers on Chable's own Trojan Records.

The opener of this double A-sided release is the powerful 'Resorcerer'. Here Dan ques up a snappy kick underpinned by some bubbling percussion layers before giving into some great tech-y vibes. Dan's sense of clean and neatly placed elements helps give this track a good amount of intensity without having to pile on layer upon layer of sounds. The real stand out of this track happens about two and a half minutes in where he starts to boil everything down to a thick and massively seductive bass line that will eat the chrome right off the disco ball. With the bass line now knocking, the whole groove elevates to a higher plane and continues to push onwards. The breakdown is a glitch fiend's wet dream as Dan automates and rips up his bass line into tiny fragments of its former self.

'Pacifist' on the other hand takes us on a slightly different journey, Dan focuses here on keeping a bouncing groove that harps back to the finer days of tech-house. Yet again the production remains clean and expertly focused as various synth arps push and pull throughout the mix. A real solid groove that keeps everything moving right along with its acidic bass line and production flips which makes for not only for a good companion to the flip side but also will feed the need for something that has that electro edge but still has enough bite.

All in all I'd have to say this is one of my favorite releases so far in Trojan's adolescence. Dan proves that he knows his craft very well and should continue to wow us with more productions as he picks up more and more clout within the community. One thing's for sure he's definitely got me as a fan and this release won't be leaving my digital "crate" anytime soon.
