Darko Feat Bnann "When I Return (Paul Rogers Mixes)"

Originally released back in mid 2003, Darko's 'When I Return' is revisited by another of Sumsonic's faces, Paul Rogers. Off the back of a huge year, with his single 'Krafty' featuring on Deep Dish's Toronto Global Underground compilation, and collaborations with the likes of Pete Bones, Paul adds his own unique sound to this track, and ending the year rather nicely for Sumsonic.

Smooth percussion leads in towards the main bassline as the 'Paul Rogers Vocal Mix' gets underway. Sub bass effects lend a vibrating feel to the solid drums that push forward, with some brooding synths flickering up and down, occasionally rising through to the surface adding a cool analogue sound to the groove. The vocal is slowly worked in, concealed by big atmospheric sweeps, building up towards a subtle breakdown, and then dropping out to a funky electronic outro to end on a high.

His 'Dub Mix' is a deeper and druggy affair, with some bass heavy drums bouncing over a soft groove. Pads slide in and out of the beats, creating a spacey hypnotic effect that appeals to the ears. The vocal is used sparingly, as the synths take over control and build a nice dark vibe which will maintain your attention, whilst moving the dancefloor at the same time.

Once again Paul Rogers proves why he has such a successful track record, with a pair of mixes which not only bring added appeal to this latest track by Darko, but put another notch on Sumsonic's ascension back to the front of record boxes worldwide.
