Darko "Quid A Balloon / Pinx"
Out Now on Sumsonic RecordingsA brand new EP from Sumsonic regular, Darko sees him return with a new bag of sounds. Electro, techno and progressive melting together in a fresh and frenzied funk that works on the floors and takes from all this influences and makes for some class music. 'Quid A Ballon' and 'Pinx' both have an electro edge, but the first has a harder peak time edge, while the latter has a housey vibe that grooves perfectly.
'Quid A Balloon' starts in with thick techy drums and a sassy snarly groove that builds slowly into jumping high hats. The snarly groove picks up momentum and builds into a filthy bouncy bassline that really takes off. As the tune grows, slicing synths step in pushing heavily, while a high ringing tone hides in the background. The pitch changes and the high sound starts to wiggle and play with everything. Everything builds and builds while also moving through chord progressions and loads of effects and layers. This is a heavy and relentless tune built for a thick and punchy dancefloor.
'Pinx' is a sweet housey electronic tune with a cool groove and gated vocal bits. A low electro bass arpeggiator sets in bouncing up and down, while vocal snips fall into place. Sweet sparkling synths glide in filling the space perfectly. Cool chords lays into the beats, pulling the song up and down and moves it through dips and drops while riding the electro bassline. The sounds build into a peak and drop off into a short ambient break that lets the sparkling synth glide once more before the beats kick back in and rock on out till the end.
Darko's sound has evolved into something special. Electro meets progressive with techy touches here and there and quality production all around. Mark O' Brien has been very busy recently finishing collaborations with Austin Leeds, Songwriter and The Infadels frontman Bnann so we can expect more great things from this talented man.
