Dave Gardner "Zoomin"
Out Now on Whoop RecordsDave Gardner is probably more familiar to many thanks to his work with the infamous Blackwatch, Michael Thomas, with their Gardner & Thomas project giving us the unforgettable 'Control' and the follow up 'Turn To Try'. He has also worked with Andy Holt, a man better known as Redanka on the project Nerva, with their numerous singles supported by all the heavyweight DJs of the time. More recently Dave has been forging his own path, a recent collaborative remix with Sahar Z of Guy Gerber's 'Stoppage Time' on Bedrock paving the way for his first solo single. A long time coming, DG's 'Zoomin' sees him finally debut on Whoop!, a label he has been associated with for much of it's ten year history.
The 'Original Mix' is a splendid dirty house track, with a hypnotic bottom end that will totally trip you out. Add in some big melodic keys that lead us to a huge sweeping breakdown courtesy of some lush but effect chord progression and this twisted little number is quite a surprise indeed, with Gardner showing he is more than capable of holding his own with the best of them.
The remix introduces us to Israeli newcomer 'Star'. A friend of Dave's whom he met on his many visits to Israel, this young up and coming producer takes things tougher, with the slower tempo allowing the big keys to rise through giving the mix a techno style edge that has already seen it catch the attention of none other than Carl Cox.
Gardner steps up to the plate and proves to be a more than capable producer in his own right. 'Zoomin' is a great start to his solo career and will no doubt find favour with those who like the big room Agoria style sound, but whether he will capitalise on this new found momentum in the coming weeks and months remains to be seen.
