David West "Carrier / Envy"

Out Now on Silver Planet Recordings

Swedish producer David West should be no stranger to many, for his involvement in such projects as Antiloop and Synergy have already created somewhat of a legacy for his previous work, with artists such as Ozgur Can and Shiloh all wishing to work with him as a result. More recently he's started pushing himself as a solo artist in his own right, with a series of massive remixes for the labels Fokused and Baroque paving the way toward this massive AA side debut for Silver Planet.

'Carrier' kicks things off in style - a progressive edged breakbeat track that avoids the usual head nodding cliches that plague the genre as of late and quite literally takes no prisoners. There's no heady ambience here, just massive synth lines that will warp your mind, and a bassline that will rip a hole in your stomach, and a track that will make you want to get up and dance rather than send you to sleep.

'Envy' takes its inspiration from a more moody nu skool sound. With a focus placed firmly on the block rocking groove, and enough drops to level a hi-rise, it's pure and unadulterated filthy beats have already received plaudits from many corners of the breakbeat scene, and like it's counterpart, is impressively produced to a level that others quite simply don't even come close to.

A stunning debut, and further evidence that David West is one to watch in the coming months as he continues to etch a niche for creating music that will make move rather than make you snooze - a lesson many others should perhaps take note of.
