Deepsky Feat Jes "Ghost (Remixes)"

Out Now on Release Records

What can I say about Deepsky that hasn’t all ready been said? These guys have made quite a name for being a driving force in the progressive trance movement, numerous releases and remixes have kept them in the forefront not only here in the states but across the globe. On their latest single with Jes Brieden (you might remember her from a little song called “As The Rush Comes”) we get treated to a second disc with two very different remixes from two other US based producers, Freaky Chakra and Toksin.

On the first round, Daum Bentley takes us down a bumpy, progressive-driven road complete with edited guitar riffs and that signature Freaky Chakra vibe that makes his tracks so infectious and drippy. The whole vibe here is set to quick and minimal pace that works well due to the use of the full vocal through out the entire track. Jas has such a compelling voice that it really carries the mix upwards into an enlightened state without getting overly euphoric or cheesy, similar to the way John Creamer and Stephane K managed to turn IIO’s “Rapture” into something deep and throbbing yet still have the vocal pull the track through.

Two other L.A. based producers, Sascha Dikiciyan and Shane Clark, collectively known as Toksin, pull out all the stops on their mix. The duo is fairly new to the scene and has started to gain a healthy buzz after winning the BT remix contest for ‘Communicate’. They opt to go the heavy edited breaks route with a big room distorted bassline resonating over quick drum edits and fills that pull influences from BT, Andy Page, Burufunk and other glitch edit addicts out there. It really isn’t until the remaining two minutes of the song that it starts to get a tad bit overwhelming with its audio sensory overload, but when it does draw to a close it leaves a little piece of the energy with you.

This is a great complement to the first disc, and Daum’s mix definitely wins me over. Not to say the Toksin is a bad mix, I just think they have yet to personalize their own sound within the breaks arena and make it their own. Release Records have certainly nabbed a winner as they continue to go from strength to strength.
