Dirtyhertz & Musselman "Revival"

Out Now on Looq Records

San Francisco's Dirtyhertz is well known for his quality production work, which has been championed by some of the biggest names in the scene. From Oakenfold, to Digweed, to Cattaneo, to Seaman, they've all played his work at some stage or another. A professional sound engineer, he has also written music and fx for Apple, NASA, and a host of video games! Here on this one tracker we see him team up with Momu's Mark Musselman for a beautiful and emotive piece of electronica.

With a proven track record, I really couldn't expect much less from this collaboration. And with all the crazy electro stuff going around at the moment, I always relish a quality piece of progressive music. The percussion sits midway between true 4/4 and breakbeat, but it gives the track a very laid back and easy going feel. There is a big melodic focus throughout the track, and after the breakdown when the chordal progression really starts to his, the true power in this gem is released. It is a lush and blissful piece of work, and one which any fan of melodic progressive simply cannot miss hearing.

While in the past Looq has been home to some amazing tracks, I have found them to be a little hit and miss at times. However, recently with releases such as Momu's 'Hydergine' and Nero's 'She's Been Sold', and now this one, they are really picking up the pace. This is a label which isn't forgetting where its roots are, and is sticking to what it does best regardless of how the scene is changing. It is an excellent trait to have, and as such I hold a lot of respect for the label, as well as the amazingly talented producers involved here.
