Gill Norris "Forme"

Out Now on Precinct Recordings

The first release for Precinct is a sweet and melodic number that oozes with production quality, dreamy arpeggios and a deep groove. James Holden featured 'Forme' on his Balance Compilation that came out on EQ last year and we've waited patiently for it to come out on vinyl. Leama & Moor take on remix duties and conjure up a twisted rendition with enough bounce to keep the floor happy, while the original is one for the more zoned out hypnotic heads out there.

A light symphony of arpeggios comes in ringing and swinging while drums lay into the sounds of 'Forme'. A deep bass wiggle shuffles underneath the crisp, but mellow drums. A solid groove starts in while the song builds and moves through many different changes and drops, but keeps with the ringing sounds and tones. Light synths make their way in and harmonize perfectly with the bells. The tune gets deep and deeper and then floats away. This is absolutely stunning.

'Leama & Moor' recreate the tune, creating a mix for the bigger floors. Harder drums lay into the cut up bell tones, while the bassline is brought up more. A solid twisting groove lies in and changes rapidly while loads of effects swallow the tune up. The dreamy synths start moving in, while the bass and arpeggios drift off. A beautiful ambient break that drifts off perfectly and then is sucked up into all again.

Forme is one of the best songs I've heard recently; a solid melody and percussive groove that never becomes cheesy, and sounds that tickle your brain perfectly. This has a sound all its own and is an absolutely perfect first release for Precinct.
