Guy Gerber "Long Time Coming EP"

Out Now on SAW Recordings

Guy Gerber needs no introduction, with his killer tracks such as 'Stoppage Time', and his top form remixes of tracks such as Bedrock's 'Santiago'. From the quality of his past works, I had high expectations for the 'Long Time Coming EP' on the massive SAW imprint, but sadly the release on a whole has quite a half-baked feel to it.

'X-Factor' takes off with a chugging main hook and a great drive to it. However, too much emphasis is placed on this hook, as it just continues on throughout the whole track without variation. The backing parts flutter around the track and provide a touch of interest, but not enough to hold up. During the breakdown however, things started to get more interesting, with the hook twisting up into new notes and reaching new heights. However as quick as it comes, it returns back to the same old thing again. Might suit a dancefloor where people aren't too interested in the track itself, but just the vibe. However on its own it is lacking in many ways.

'Cleptomanic' is easily the stronger of the two tracks. It has a great chugging feel to it with an interesting light melody set against a solid bass section. The track is very simplistic over all and nothing groundbreaking either, however it sets a very nice mood and certainly put a smile on my face. Still not all I have come to expect from Gerber, however a definite improvement over the flipside.

Whilst 'Cleptomanic' is a nice track, the release is sadly shadowed by 'X-Factor'. There isn't anything new or particularly groundbreaking featured here, and for fans of Gerber's sound it might be worth checking out. I will still be eagerly awaiting another of his releases to hopefully spark chaos in the manner of 'Stoppage Time' or the likes of.
