Gwill Morris Feat Kyla "Time"

Out Now on Skyline Records

It's been over a year since Gwill Morris last graced us with some of his original production work, but as we enter 2004 he has many projects ready to roll. Picking up where the Main Element track 'Take Me Down' left off, 'Time' once again features the vocals of Kyla, but sees Gwill venture into a more experimental direction, blending house and electro like only he can.

The 'Vocal Mix' is a superb take on the electro sound, with a rolling bassline starts off at a fairly minimal and soft tempo but soon builds into a rippling behemoth that will test the speakers on a dancefloor for sure. The chords and melodies assist the build up, filling out the groove perfectly, whilst Kyla's vocals add an eerie twist to the sounds, whilst adding to the intensity rather than detracting from it.

Man of the moment 'Luke Chable' strips things right back and opts for a percussion based direction for his 'Dub Mix'. Starring off with pounding drums and trippy rattling sounds, haunting delays lead us into the main section where the groove is cut up whilst melody hooks and big riffs are slotted in, easing out into a melody solo that takes us to the break. Ah yes, the break. As the vocal enters, Luke applies filters and delays, stretching it further and further, as twisted breakbeats rise up from underneath. The result? A breakdown that goes on for over 90 seconds and is quiet possibly one of the most twisted and fucked up breakdowns ever. Luke's trigger happy edits come into play and turn the track on it's head, finishing with a bouncing melody finale that puts the exclamation point on an astounding reinterpretation.

Two great mixes, although the original may not appeal to all. Luke Chable once again pushes the envelope, redefining his own sound even further and adding an individual mix to this package. For those who wish to experiment even further, watch out for the remix package including a trippy dub mix and a re-rub from the excellent Dibaba.
