Hernan Cerbello "Piano Choice / Dr Fred Is Back"
Out Now on VapouRise RecordingsArgentinian Hernan Cerbello has steadily forged a reputation for himself as both a DJ and producer. His involvement in the music industry has spanned over a decade with performances at Pacha in his home country amongst his notable achievements. His work in the studio has been rewarded with heavy support from the likes of Hernan Cattaneo, Kosmas Epsilon, Desyn Masiello, Jeff Bennett, John Dahlback and Matthew Dekay. Here on 'Piano Choice' and 'Dr Fred Is Back', he graces us with two original tracks with the summer definitely in mind.
A-side 'Piano Choice' glides along majestically with an uplifting piano hook and chunky percussion leading the way before an electro-tinged bass introduces itself, which combines well with the piano to create a solid summer house groove. This theme is continued with subtle inclusions of additional synth elements adding depth to the piece. The track breaks down midway taking a slightly dubbier approach before letting rip with the main elements from before, closing the track nicely.
On the flip, 'Dr Fred Is Back' is not vastly dissimilar to its counterpart. A tough house groove is created thanks to funk-filled rolling percussion, before a wicked organ-like synth builds to an early crescendo. A driving, electro-charged bassline and huge lead synth stamp their authority upon the track, which carry things along in a decidedly tough, yet funky fashion. The addition of some subtle vox-style references help bring a new lease of life to the piece after the main break, leading to a grooving finale of a track, which with its basis of simple elements, more than retained my interest during its 8 and a half minutes.
While I suspect neither track will have significant longevity, it's not difficult to envisage both being allocated space in the boxes of a plethora of house DJ's for the duration of the summer months. 'Piano Choice' and 'Dr Fred Is Back' are far from groundbreaking, nor are they exceptionally strong records in their field. Yet, as decent summer-infused house groovers, I have no doubt both will serve their purpose while the hot pants and vests are in full effect this season.
