Inkfish Vs David West "Aftermath"
Out Now on SOG LiquidThe Inkfish boys team up with David West for this, the latest release on Greed's SOG Records imprint. 'Aftermath' is the first of several collaborative projects to come from this meeting of minds, with the trademark pumping progressive vibes associated with this label playing a major part in the original version, with the remix provided by the label's latest acquisition, Mercurio.
Heavy kicks lead into the 'Original Mix', and it's not long before the rough beats start assembling themselves and locking you into a groove. Subtle bass lends itself to the pumping tempo that is crafted well, with a heads down vibe taking us through the first few minutes with relative ease. It's when the floaty synths and piercing hook of the track are brought into the mix that things get interesting. A moody drop interrupts, before the finale things take a dramatic turn, with a deep and haunting energy being unleashed to superb effect.
'Mercurio' provides a nice contrast on the flip with a deep and atmospheric interpretation that uses the haunting sounds of the original to great effect, creating an intensity early on in the mix, and unleashing it at just the right tempo, ensuring that this cooler mix gets many plays, and for me it's the pick of the two mixes on offer here.
There's no great innovation here. Two unashamedly straight progressive mixes that lean towards different ends of the spectrum, which is basically what fans of this label love, and what the label has constantly delivered, meaning if that's what you love, then this is for you.
