Inkfish Vs Tronso "Weird Reactions / Mrs Pacman"
Out Now on ACDCIf you're a fan of the harder big room edge of progressive, you're probably familiar with the parties involved on the latest from Sweden's AC/DC label. The Spiral Trax imprint has been letting loose some illicit beats from Martin H to Greed, and prepares to continue this tradition here on their latest release with the help of Inkfish and Tronso.
Jumping right in, 'Weird Reactions' makes for the opening selection. With a broken tribal rhythm kicking up with the right amount of syncopation, this makes for a deep & throbbing groove that Inkfish fans have come to expect from the act. Tronso's production techniques work well with Mattias' crew as the track moves upwards adding a squelchy 303 bass line and keeping the groove strong and straightforward. Everything is moved steadily along until half way through where the track builds down, yet only momentary, before dropping back in with a new squelchy synth line. This track has club appeal written all over it, and it delivers its message with slick accuracy.
'Mrs. Pacman' picks up next, hammering yet another strong rhythm section built of a tight kick and sharp percs across some catchy patterns. A warbling bass line helps let this track loose inside a grimy electro tinged afterlife of techno and house, without losing track of the dance floor appeal. Building into the meat of the track, the parties involved quickly add some change up in the form of some eastern influenced percussion as the track's sleazy vocals make their mark throughout. Both of these tracks pretty much deliver the same message, but for my money 'Mrs. Pacman' is my favorite.
A solid outing by both Inkfish and Tronso, they show a perfect grasp of what can be executed within a formula driven genre without causing boredom. They know how to give the DJ and the floor exactly what they want, and while these tracks might not have the "hook" required to find this being hummed in people's heads, it definitely will be part of what makes the night when the right DJ drops it.
