Insight "Prophecy (Remixes)"

Out Now on Sunkissed Records

Following on from Innate and Andy Moor's remix package of the classic 'Prophecy' comes another disc, featuring a remix from fast rising Canadian outfit Shiloh, who's remix sits alongside the 1996 original. If you missed it first time around, now you have the chance to experience one of Sam Mollison's best vocal performances first hand, but that's just one of the reasons this should be given a listen. Here's more.

Slip the 'Shiloh Mix' onto the desk and you will be treated to some driving bass and serious breakbeat action. Melodies and gated synths smoother the groove as Sam's emotive vocal gets twisted through all manner of distorted tricks with various filters, vocoders and robotic effects being used to huge effect. As the track slips down into the main melody, Sam delivers a vocal solo that takes the mood even higher. Just the perfect platform to really let loose and those Shiloh boys do just that, increasing the pressure as we crash through a break into a dramatic finale that hits like a home run. Another big mix from Shiloh.

Flip over for the 'Original Mix'. In contrast, this reminds us of the epic house period of the mid 1990s with it's piano stabs and chord effects. Think back to the early days of BT and his timeless 'Ima' album and you can get an idea of how this track sounds. Drifting along at a constant pace, things don't really differ until the first bars of Sam's vocal enter the track that things take another direction. Trademark epic house from back in the day, but whether it stands the test of time is something I'm sure there will be a difference of opinion on. Back in the day it was a massive track, but now you just find yourself comparing it to some of the pioneers of this particular sound. Nevertheless, a treat for those who have never heard the original, and a gauge to see what Shiloh and Innate & Andy Moor had to build on.

The Shiloh update shines like a beacon here, and comes highly recommended. A strong 30th release from Sunkissed, and both discs deserve a place in your record box.
