Invisible Inc "Stars (Remixes: Part Two)"

With the ambient version having been a staple of Sasha's DJ sets for months and months, and then being used in a national advertising campaign on UK television, Invisible Inc's 'Stars' has already reached the ears of more people than the average record on an independent label might normally do. This final part of the saga sees Sumsonic's Gainer finally get the chance to do his own interpretation of the track, teaming up with new boy Alex Drury for a debut outing as 'Catch 2', with the final interpretation being the John Digweed supported 'Unbroken Mix'.

'Catch2' beef things up with, weaving the subtle melodies and pads of the original right into the heart of this tough and chunky breakbeat mix. With more ducks and dives than an heavyweight boxing match, and a rocking bassline pushing things forward, the harmonies of the original take a backseat until later in the mix, but when they are finally introduced, the results speak for themselves as we finally have a mix with some serious bite and a ballsy attitude for those who like to stray towards a tougher edge.

The 'Unbroken Mix' draws its influence from the superb ambient mix of the track which Damien Chicken and studio partner Dino Sofos both loved, and building on that template they manage to pull together a down and dirty analogue style mix that builds on a bed of floating pads and deep beats, and drops into a cool rolling section as it draws things to an emotional climax which ends the story on a perfect note.

The biggest release on Sumsonic by far, 'Stars' has in a way brought the label back to the forefront of most people's minds, so the only question that now remains is how the label can manage to rival or repeat it's success in the coming months.
