Jacob Todd & Jordan Nafie "Ariadne's Thread"

Out Now on Emote Music

"Ariadne's Thread" marks the second release for Jacob Todd's new Emote Music label, which seems to be taking off in a very positive direction. In the past few years we have been able to see Todd's sound grow to what it is today, and he is fast becoming a well known name in the scene. He is joined on this track by his friend Jordan Nafie, and this results in a track which is - as the label name would suggest - quite emotive!

The Original Mix is simply put a beautiful track. Its throbbing bassline is coupled by blissful melodies to create a lush atmosphere. The track takes me back to what I remember as being progressive music back in its earlier stages, which is a very good thing! The talent of these two producers really shines, and it is excellent to see producers such as Todd and Nafie going back to proper progressive sounds, when electro seems to be the big thing at the moment.

Not up for being outdone, Habersham keeps the quality levels high on his eccentric take of the original mix. For any fans of "Dryspell" out there, you will simply love this one, as the synths found here are very reminiscent of that track. The bassline is ripped from underneath us and given a pounding rework. The glitchy percussion of a Habersham production is seen here, and as soon as the melody drops the track explodes. This is one huge number, and certainly not to be missed.

Jeremy Watkins, better known as Oxygen Breathing Apparatus provides the final remix for the release. The mood isn't as heavy as Habersham's mix, and not as deep as the Original. But instead it takes a very laid back approach, and introduces some blissful airy effects which are very soothing to listen to. As the melody takes off, the mood heightens, and the results are very relaxing. This ends the release on a very good note.

Todd seems to be going from strength to strength with his new label, and this release is an excellent addition to the discography (along with a brilliant number from Steve McMahon). Each mix presented here gives the listener a different atmosphere and mood to enjoy, and thus it is a very well rounded release overall. If Todd can keep up this quality on his releases then it will most definitely be a label to watch out for in the future.
