Jason Randolph "Lo"

Out Now on Rococo Records

Jason Randolph hails from San Francisco, California and whilst he may not be a name that is persistently noticed, his resume speaks for itself. More likely to be known to most of us for his singles on Whoop and Baroque Records, his credentials as a producer stretch much further, with contributions to such labels as Maverick, Atlantic and Interscope, having put his hand to an extensive range of music across a number of genres. With the start of the new year now behind us, and moving ahead into 2007, Jason delivers his first single of the year for new label Rococo Records.

'Lo' is a rather excellent piece of uptempo funky house music. Think of some of the classic US house tracks of yesteryear and Jason Randolph takes the elements that made those so great and adds a slight twist of his own to the sound. Latin piano licks are used to splendid effect within the latter half of the track, only helping to establish's the track's prominence further.

The 'Alternative Mix' of 'Lo' takes a deeper route, with a slightly more disjointed arrangement allowing the atmospheric mood of the track to expand and develop. The funky stabs are once again prominent, but this mix is more for the heads, losing the versatility, but compensated for by it's no nonsense approach.

The Rococo label may still be in its infancy, but so far we've had a great release from Shiloh, which has now been followed by this latest offering from Jason Randolph, making this a label to monitor closely to see what they bring forth over the coming months.
