Jim Rivers "Catch 22"

Out Now on Saved Records

Every year brings a plethora of new, up and coming production talent, but none in 2006 have been quite as consistent as Jim Rivers. In the past few months alone, he's found himself on a number of well respected labels, with EPs on Saw Recordings and EQ Grey underpinned by some stellar remix work on Nascent Recordings and GU Music. On the back of some great reaction to the 'Restore' and 'Square Route' EPs, Jim's third single 'Catch 22' now arrives on Saved Records, complete with an interpretation by none other than label don himself Nic Fanciulli.

The Original Mix's warm techy rhythms snare you from the opening, before the moody lead synth takes over. The general ambience and mood has a hint of Radiohead circa Kid-A, and whilst Jims's trademark deep layers and intricate arrangements are all in place, 'Catch 22' puts a totally new spin on them.

Nic Fanciulli's edit sees the Saved boss deconstruct the original, keeping the basic elements, and turning in a bubbling electro tinged version of the track. The original lead is still very much prominent, but a rolling bassline follows in it's wake. The mix shimmers and builds subtly, hitting a distorted crescendo before it finally subsides.

Already supported by the likes of James Lavelle, Hernan Cattaneo and having found itself in the Buzz Chart, 'Catch 22' finds itself sitting comfortably along Jim's two previous singles . In addition to some new original work and a remix for Kriece coming shortly, Jim's also found his DJ bookings growing, with his subliminal warm up sets taking him around the UK and further afield. His career isn't a "no win situation" - in fact, it's one of the year's biggest success stories, and he will definitely be a name to watch throughout the rest of the year and into 2007.
