Jono Fernandez "Colours Of Conscience"

Out Now on Electrofly Records

Jono Fernandez is one of several names exploding out of the Australian dance scene in the last few months. With his tracks already getting support from Dave Seaman and Anthony Pappa, and releases on Zero Tolerance in addition to collaborations with the likes of Luke Chable he has already made quite a name for himself. 'Colours Of Conscience' is the first of several singles he has lined up for Electrofly, and boy, what a way to kick things off..

Crunchy kick drums and low slung percussive hooks grind together, creating the deep sub bass groove of the 'Original Mix'. Intricate synth fx and a soft melody shuffle through the beats, adding both depth and warm emotion to the track as it slowly descends into the eerie spoken vocal that floats across the twinkling break. As the pace ascends once more, Jono layers the beats lending a tougher punch to them as they conceal the chords within, bringing this lucious masterpiece to a perfect end.

As 'Fretwell' gets to grips with the track on the flipside, he wastes no time in stripping it down and introducing a big swelling groove that engulfs everything in it's path. As the beats are submerged in cascading sounds, they are locked into a rippling bassline that rises and drops as it rolls forward. Dirty vocoder effects and synths cover the groove, adding a dark edge to the spoken vocal as the thrashing rhythm controls the flow of the mix, building gradually to an atmospheric reprise before Fretwell unleashes one final aural assault to batter your senses in mindnumbing fashion.

Another excellent release from this new label, which is already setting itself a standard that will be hard to maintain. However, having seen some of the material they have lined up, this will not be a problem whatsoever. Be sure to pick up a copy of this next time you are at the record store, whether you are a breakshead or not..
