Karton "Fire Fucker"

Out Now on Sound Not Scene

Karton are one of the latest talents to emerge from Australia's capital. The duo of Paul Beohm and Paul Ritcher have been creating beats for a while now, and have also devised a unique live act which they have showcased alongside artists such as Infusion, Vance Musgrove and Sound Not Scene's own EK. Now they join EK once more as their debut single 'Fire Fucker' lands as the latest release on the label.

The 'Original Mix' is a dark and dirty monster. Growling bass, big synth lines and cut up loops create a wicked fluctuating groove into which heavy beats are drilled. Laser effects pulsate and shoot over the top adding to the increasing tension of the beats. Each time you think the pace is going to ease off, it returns harder and tougher than the previous section, The moody vocal hook rears it's head once again during the break, having disappeared after the start, dropping into a heads down synth fest to slam things into the home straight. A dynamic piece of work that bridges the gap between progressive and nu skool with relative ease.

Sound Of Habib's Johan Olofsson creates his own 'Invincible Mix' on the flip, slowing down the tempo and taking a more reclined approach, but adding some terrific stutter percussion and minor key changes to ensure the groove is kept shifting along. With more focus on the percussive arrangements, Johan's mix takes the mood deeper, but is equally as effective.

A superb debut release which shows much promise of what's to come in the future from these two. Without a doubt we haven't seen the last of their partnership with Sound Not Scene, so all we can hope is that we hear from them soon rather than later.
