Kind Of Zero "Favourite Train"
Out Now on SOG ChromeOver the past six years Tobias aka Greed has built up a broadening collection of releases across SOG and its sub-labels, bringing together artists who share in his passion for strong, melodic music. Showing that music has no geographical borders, Tobi has snapped up 'Favorite Train' from Romania’s Kind Of Zero.
A seminal release for SOG, as this represents the last work from SOG member Alex Stealthy, who after this remix has decided to step away from the scene.
With Alex's mix at the forefront of the release, we are taken into a strong, lush four-on-the-floor groove. Shimmering arps capitalize on the driving nature of the track before it winds into a quick break and rebuild with serious energy. An overall quick mix, this doesn't leave any down time as it fires right through its almost 8 minutes of main room mayhem.
The flip gives us two versions of the 'Original Mix', first the original breaks mix. Here a set of tight higher pitched percussions lay over a smooth sub bass progression as simplistic synth patterns begin to layer over each other to craft some nice atmosphere. The break lays down a great distorted lead that creeps up into the track. The '4/4 Mix' rounds out the release, with the focus firmly on the arps. The bass line cuts through a little harder here, as the whole track’s energy gets turned up a few notches.
Overall these three tracks will fit the bill for SOG fans, however my only complaint is the use of the train sample, thankfully all three versions didn't beat it to death but it still didn’t do much for me. It's also sad to see Alex go, but he is leaving behind a set of great projects for us to enjoy and I know I speak for all of us in wishing him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
