Kraymon "Wacko"

Out Now on Release Elements

Third release for Release Elements comes from Bristolian producer Pete Horsham, better known to many breakbeat fans as Kraymon. Having made his dent on the breakbeat scene in 2000, he has released material on labels such as Freakaboom, in addition to running his own night Kingpin. His latest track 'Wacko' follows on from such tracks as the superb 'Fade In', and could be another big release for the label.

Heading into the 'Original Mix', we are treated to some pulsating rhythms and crisp beats that soon subside into what can only be described as a blitzing bassline. Beats drop in, wave after wave, and as we enter this section of the track a big horn sample wails across the groove, almost like an air raid siren warning of an aerial assault. Drum loops and intricate melody lines keep the beats interesting as an eerie vocal hook rises over the top, leading into a superb piano break before launching into a twisted full on finale. Kraymon puts the fun into funk on this tight little number.

'Pilavian & Zimbardo' have a hard act to follow with their remix, but embrace the challenge head on with a big room tribal workout. Starting out fairly restrained, the track soon opens up with big snare hooks cutting through the main melody and over the top. Big synth sweeps glide in and out of the percussion and whilst not the most innovative or fresh tracks, this does what it says on the tin which is all you can expect really, but doesn't quite equal the original.

All in all a well compiled single, with two mixes that will inject some energy into the dancefloor. Be you are purist breaks head or someone who likes things a bit deeper and darker, you will definitely find something here that will move you.
