Legend Of Talking Dog "My Shadow Dances (Remixes)"

Out Now on Hooj Choons

It was about two years ago that I first heard 'My Shadow Dances', just after Phil Jason first made his arrival into the music scene with 'Carnival House EP' on Saw Recordings. Out of all his tracks that I heard back then, this was my favourite, so to see it released now on Hooj is great news, and the remixes by Mr Velcro Fastener and Red Jerry are pretty good to boot, so let me explain the appeal of this track for me..

It's on the a-side that the 'Original Mix' is present in all it's glory and still sounds as great as the first time I heard it. Based around a simplistic drum groove, it's the sublime vocal and layered effects that hold the real ingredient of the track and as Cat's vocals slowly unfold you find yourself being drawn into the track as the vocals drift off into a small break and allow the drums to rise through with added grandeur.

'Mr Velcro Fastener' then returns once more with his 'Instrumental' interpretation, stripping out the vocal and letting the strings and melody line really swing back and forth, ensuring this mix will slot nicely into a slamming breakbeat set where the vocals would be quite out of place, and to round it all off, theres an added 'Acapella' at the end for some dj tool shenanigans.

Bit of a mixed bag here because if you love the original then you will want the vocal Mr Velcro Fastener mix which is found on the other disc, and if you dislike, the vocal, well this disc has limited appeal for you, but is worth checking out if you're feeling the other mixes.
