Lisa German "Where Are We"
Out Now on Wallop RecordingsLisa German is a hardworking and respectable DJ, having been a resident for DTPM for some years, and playing all over the UK’s best clubs including Tribal Sessions, Bed and Gatecrasher. This is Lisa's third release on Wallop, and she delivers the goods once more. She's been working hard in the studio to further her career, and came up with 'Where Are We', a tech funk number with great percussion and wiggly sounds, along with a great tribal mix from the Dirty Northern Scoundrels.
A nice dirty groove starts in underneath and the drums build into claps, high hats and a solid punchy kick. Juicy analog bass drops in there, adding a sassy feel. Vocal snips are added, and we drop into a break introducing some nice warm floaty pads and a deep sinister stab. Everything kicks back in along with some new techy sounds adding yet another layer of percussion and following it down till the end.
Lisa and Wallop label manager Lee Morrison are the Dirty Northern Scoundrels. They remix 'Where Are We' into a dirty tribal tune, with low bass booms and many new percussive elements. Zaps, pops and a kick come in with high hats and low stabs, and drop into a cool deep bassline that shakes up the groove. The vocal samples are stretched and cut up, and layer in with shrilling air sounds. Tons of quick breaks and change ups keeps the song moving quickly, while the pad synths have been cut short and used sparingly. A very nice remix to the original.
Wallop delivers a great release by Lisa German. 'Where We Are' is a techy stomper sure to catch a wave of support soon, and with an added tribal mix from Dirty Northern Scoundrels there's no reason to sleep on this one.
