Matthew Dekay Band "Higher Thoughts"
Out Now on Little Mountain RecordingsMatthew Dekay can do no wrong. The biggest names in dance right now are eating up his anthemic groovy sounds, while his dj sets are capturing the attention of people all across the world. Matthew has a load of talent and each of his tracks constantly pushes the boundaries forward, and 'Higher Thoughts' is no exception.
Clicky drums shuffle while a spacey synth moves between the speakers, taking us into the 'Original Mix'. 80s toms kick in and drop off into a groovy ass shaking bassline that never lets up. Slap bass sounds come in with a growing pumping chord progression, all moving up and down building and growing with short snips and changes for variation. A sparkling break that still pulses gives you a bit of a rest, but then back into the funk. This song moves people with it's uplifting chords and brilliant basslines, and will do so time and time again.
'Steve Porter' is another producer who seems to be unstoppable at the moment. Here he melts progressive with jazzy sounds, but keeps that uplifting feeling from the original mix. Chuggy drums start in with the spacey sounds following. A shaker moves in with other slappy sounds, while there’s more focus on the slap bassline. The tune has a funky old school disco edge to it. Piano sounds bounce around creating a new harmony with the main chord progression, with subtle builds and change ups throughout the whole song. This is a brilliant flipside that should appeal to many.
It's hard not to have heard this track, but not one to rest on his laurels, Matthew Dekay has already been busy in the studio working on new tracks, and is set to launch his label Dekay Records very shortly, so expect to hear a lot from this talented young producer throughout the rest of the year.
