Mavi "A Tribute To M&Ms"

Out Now on Release Records

It's been over two years since we were last treated to a Mavi single, but Yunus Guvenen returns once more under his alter-ego with perhaps his most accomplished track under the project yet, 'A Tribute To M&Ms'. With a spectacular four track EP entitled 'Lost Anatolian' laying the foundations of what was to come, Yunus went on to become a highly successful recording artist on both Bedrock and Silver Planet, and this track marks his debut on Release Records, complimented with a remix by his good friend, occasional co-producer and fellow countryman, Subsky.

As one might expect, the 'Original Mix' is an hypnotic masterpiece, with the usual complex arrangements and hidden depths that are very much a trademark of any of Yunus Guvenen's tracks. His subtle, understated drum percussion always manages to stand out and here it's complimented by big pads and a solid bassline, which all contribute to the atmospheric groove that is forged. One other element that Yunus always manages to introduce to his productions is melody, and the intricate layers of sounds and effects here give it a subtle elegance and warmth, yet still managing to tell a story whilst making you move.

Subsky's 'Solid Mix' sees him take the original body of work and a blank canvas and then setting about making his own interpretation of the track. With the same understated hooks and melodies intact, Subsky focuses on laying down some serious beat arrangements, and that he does, giving us a blinding breakbeat interpretation. Building at a steady pace, a series of carefully placed drops lead into the twisted breakdown, with the melody easing through the carnage and bringing this big, big remix to it's close.

The long awaited return of Mavi has proven to be worth the wait, as 'A Tribute To M&Ms' is another fine offering, and backed with the superb remix from Subsky, it's hard to find fault with this single, which has all the signs of being another highly successful release from Release Records.
