Nick K "80s Ball"

Out Now on SOG Liquid

Nick K is another of Holland's finest, being a transplant from the middle east originally, but now calling the Netherlands his home. Many people will probably be familiar with his collaborations with Sharam Jey on Hooj and Airtight, but here Nick goes it alone, and brings to us '80s Ball'.

The tough groove that introduces us to Nick's 'Original Mix' expands as each snare kick hits the surface, dispersing the groove and moving it forward. A low rolling bass can be heard behind the groove as light effects rain upon the percussion line, as it builds to a big melodic break, with a guitar-esque riff letting its presence be felt before dropping down into the groove once more as it slows down.

The 'Greed' remix on the other hand uses a more atmospheric edged groove to get the intensity building right from the start. Good use of punchy beats that slam against the percussion keeps things interesting as the beats develop into a big breakbeat riff which runs over the spacial melody that has now emerged, and the track builds and drops over a series of mini breaks, which will get the floor moving without a doubt. A tasy little remix that far exceeds the original.

I woud not call this one of SOG's finest moments to date, but the Greed mix with it's big house groove is definately worth checking out, but the original seems a bit flat and is slightly disappointing to say the least. No doubt Greed fans will lap this up though.
