No Religion "Tongue Ride EP"

Out Now on SOG Liquid

No Religion are Switzerland's answer to Slayer, and have gained a reputation for fusing furious rock grooves with electronic sounds and genres. This 'Tongue Ride EP' is a collection of remixes of some of their tracks, remixed by some of the finest european talent to have graced the SOG roster over the last few months.

Kicking off the EP is Pow Low's 'Guitar Mix' of the title track 'Tongue Ride' A twisted groove and a guitar riff of heavy proportions may not come across as the ideal of combinations, but when the rockstar vocal and analogue-esque beats roll in, it builds and crashes in stage diving fashion. One of those tracks that quite literally will beg the question 'what the f*ck was that' when it's played out. This is backed by the 'Pow Low & Greed Mix' of 'Soul Pilot' which takes us back to a more familar path, low end mechanics working in tandem with some some rippling beats and grooves to create a mix that builds slowly, an Underworld-esque vocal adding an extra dimension to the track, it's electro guitar riffs pulling off a starling solo before dropping to an ambient reprise before kicking back in with mind numbing effect.

The original 'Pow Low Mix' of 'Tongue Ride is over on the flip, and takes things at a slower pace with electronic riffs and the twisted vocal now taking the centre of attention, over a basic yet tight groove. Not particularly anything interesting in comparsion to the 'Guitar Mix' though. Finishing off the EP is the 'Andre Absolut Mix' of 'Force Me To Reality' which is a percussion based house number that keeps the groove pounding with synth hooks bouncing off the resulting soundscape, as an uplifting vocal sits amongst the carnage. Sublime melodies and spacial sounds add depth to the track, and all together bring things to a nice climax.

With a diverse range of tracks, this EP may appear as good value for money, but the standouts are the remixes of 'Soul Pilot' and 'Force Me To Reality'. The title track has limited use, and as such I recommend you 'try before you buy'.
