Ozgur Can "Sunday"
Out Now on ACDCA country that's become a hotbed for dance music talent over the last few years is undoubtedly Sweden and one of its stellar producers is the multi talented Ozgur Can. With a solid number of productions and remixes already under his belt, the release of 'Sunday' will see his reputation as a sophisticated producer only grow in strength and popularity. This is one release that will grab you from the outset and not let go until you're quite literally out of breath. Quite simply, this is dazzling!
The original version of 'Sunday' opens with the sound of frantic cymbals and beats, mashed synths and harmonic chords are soon layered into the track before a mellowed breakdown halts the track slightly. From then on, a solid driving beat kicks in with a padded but melodic bass overlaying it. Throughout, 'Sunday' twists and turns at slight angles while those harmonic chords are used as sound effects. These particular chords of a very digitalised computer sound. At varying points, there are slight lulls in the track but from an overall perspective, the track is relentless from start to finish. While the driving bass and beat are the mainframe of the track, they're not overpowering and things are balanced out with the use of synths and sound effects. Ozgur Can's creation is the type of composition that's just pure dancefloor mayhem. It's been a long time since I've heard this type of progressive house and it's a sound that I really miss. More please!
The Stian Klo remix reinterprets 'Sunday' into a fusion of electro and progressive house. From my perspective, the original is perfect to my ears so I was somewhat concerned as to where this remix would go. Needless to say, my concerns were laid to rest as this is a brilliant remix. The intro to the track is slowed down slightly but the beats and cymbal sounds that were present in the original are also here but crisper in tone. However, the electrolysed bass line comes into play and catapults the track onto another level. The harmonic chords that were quite sublime in the original are now much more prominent which only add to the interesting layers in this remix. The main beat has been padded out and has more of a booming quality but without dominating the track. While firmly meshed in an electro/progressive house fused genre, this is one hell of a remix that takes the original and twists it the right way. I have no doubt that this version will cause walls to start vibrating when played at a certain volume.
This is an outstanding release from Ozgur Can. Both the original and the Stian Klo remix are a pleasure to listen to and both beg to be blasted through the speakers of a club. The original mix has that driving quality that's been lacking in the sound of progressive house for quite some time while Stian Klo's remix gives 'Sunday' a solid electro rendering without losing any of the track's driving qualities. It's these type of productions that I miss hearing in compilations and in clubs and can only hope that will come back. Ozgur Can is not only a talented producer but has the ability to see what's missing in the progressive sound in general.
