PJ Davy "Henry's Tune"

Out Now on Twisted Frequency Recordings

Earlier this past year James Harcourt went out into shaky ground to set up his new label, Twisted Frequency. With more and more labels packing it in it’s a gamble for anyone to launch a label in this current environment, luckily for Harcourt he has a good ear for what to look for in a tune and here with PJ Davy’s latest he’s definitely found a winner. Davy, a relative new comer on the scene has only a few tracks under his belt so far, but with some stellar releases on EQ Grey and 'What It's Worth' featured on Zabiela's 'ALiVE' shows that he’s got a few tricks up his sleeve.

Picking up almost where he left off last year, 'Henry's Tune' is a nice slice of the creative side of the electro movement. Perfectly placed lo-fi arrangements bubble across the minimal groove Davy effortlessly creates before launching into one of the most disturbing, ass-rippling bass-line’s I’ve ever witnessed. Davy has a great sense of space within his work, and it makes for all of his twisted elements to shine splendidly across the mix.

For remix duties, Harcourt teams up with Dan Welton, another up and coming producer with a bright future. Here the boys hone the groove of the track into a more tech house format but shies away from being too formulaic with its quirky editing of the original elements. Welton and Harcourt employ a more subtle bass line compared to the original’s wrecker, but it is as equally effective here against the syncopated percussions and creative filtering. Next to the original, this is a mix that will grow on you and ends up complementing the original nicely.

This is a package that will definitely see some solid support, as so far (from this and the inaugural release on the label) it seems James has his fingers firmly locked on the pulse of the scene today.
