Parham & Dominic Plaza "Catch The Sun / Substance"
Out Now on Vapour RecordingsParham is a promoter, DJ and producer from Sweden, one of the figureheads responsible for pushing the progressive sound via many nights in Sweden and across the Nordic region, the most well known being the Fokused events. Having made the venture into production after many years of promoting and spinning, Parham's productions with collaborator Dominic Plaza have already caught the attention of DJs such as Dave Seaman, Anthony Pappa and indeed Kasey Taylor, so it's no surprise that two of their first track, 'Catch The Sun' and 'Substance' land on Vapour Recordings.
'Catch The Sun' is an unashamedly progressive track, the likes of which you'd hear in one of John Digweed's more twisted sets. A big kick drum solo sits at the heart of the groove, floaty ambience inducing a sense of depth to the sounds with metallic sounding pads and techy effects filling things out rather nicely indeed. Subtle keys and killer stabs change things up, and as the track unfolds it will just simply twist up the floor with no problem whatsoever.
'Substance' is an equally as effective track, sticking to the same driving template that it's counterpart fills out so well, but recreating it in it's own pumping style. Hypnotic basslines and loops cascade around an inner melody that gives the track some major top end action, and when all is said and done, there aren't of these rolling peak time monsters being made anymore, so this is a welcome change.
Vapour once again deliver the goods, not being afraid to embrace traditional sounds and ideas, but presenting them in such a way they they are fresh and current, and there are not many labels that you can look at and say are so consistently good in the past few months, so hats off to Kasey Taylor for his work in building the label's profile as of late.
