Paul Rogers & Pete Bones "Tampa Blues"

Out Now on Sumsonic Recordings

Paul Rogers has enjoyed much accolade with recent projects 'Krafty' and 'Lazy Monday', and recently he spent some time in the US, where he stayed at the home of his good friend Pete Bones. With some time to kill, he started work on a track on his laptop, and Pete soon got involved. After a few final tweaks at Sumsonic's HQ in London, the results of their collaboration are now here, as 'Tampa Blues' now hits record shelves everywhere..

Keeping to the deep grooves that have become associated with the Sumsonic sound on the 'Original Mix', Paul and Pete soon get down to business. Light drums and warbling effects blend together, creating a pulsating riff which crawls through the percussive groove, altering it's pace and structure as it develops, leading towards the break. The main riff drops deep into the break, warm pads bringing shifting from side to side before letting go as the track builds once more, fading out to a single kick drum to finish.

Not wanting to be left out, fellow Sumsonic boys 'Darko and Gainer' rework the track for the remix, and the first thing you will notice is the increased pace of the track. Futuristic drum patterns and a rolling bassline form the nucleus of this reinterpretation, with use of soft atmospheric effects filling out the gaps as the sounds unfold. A trippy melody slips through leading into the series of drops that line across the break and to the outro, keeping the tempo rocking till the last beat.

Probably one of the best releases on Sumsonic in a long time, and whilst some people may have moved on to other things, this is definately worth a listen. Let's hope they can continue with more output like this, perhaps another Sleepfreaks single needs to appear soon??
