Quest "The Shepherd"

Out Now on Vapour Recordings

Luke Chable has been on fire over the past few months. With numerous remixes to his name, and upcoming projects including a compilation for Release Records, in addition to a Lo-Step artist album alongside Phil K on Global Underground, it's surprising that Luke manages to find the time to write some original material, but here he is with his first single of 2004, which sees him return to his Quest project once again. 'The Shepherd’ is a trippy mind bending warp melodic trip through space done as only Luke can do.

The 'Original Mix' is a fantastic ride through space and melody. A heavy kick thumps while traveling through layers of building toms and filtered claps, that are engulfed by a pinched sound and spat out to a massive bass rumble and ringing chimed melody. Voices speak out hidden underneath the growing melody. A tripped out thick and low acid tone brings us down and pops into a break that swims in sound. Big washes fall over the kick drum, which leads us further into the twinkly melody and acid tone. This drives hard and would sound absolutely amazing in a big room.

The 'Heavy Dub' sounds as if a dirty bully roughed it up. The kick chugs and the toms are crunched up and gritty. There is a lot more focus on the drums with different fills and changes. A slight hint of washed out melody can be heard a bit but falls victim to the gritty drums. A lovely crunched up reinterpretation to take you to those darker places.

Luke Chable is a mastermind when it comes to layered sounds and stompy beats. His grooves are infectious, and the moods he creates are surreal. There is seemingly no stopping him and his many projects he puts his hand to.
