Rene Amesz "Back Into The Funk"

Out Now on Little Mountain Recordings

With a number of releases on labels such as Extrema, Deep, and Deep Focus, Rene Amesz has steadily been settling nicely into his own little corner of the music scene where he has strived to continuously redefine his sound, with the only constant being the solid house grooves that are a trademark of his work. Sander Kleinenberg is a huge fan of his work, so it comes as no surprise to find Rene appearing here on Sander's own Little Mountain imprint. with a track that captures the funky side of his sound that he is well known for across his home country. So join us, as we head 'Back Into The Funk'.

The 'Original Mix' takes a driving percussion led direction, with some big stabs, but the groove is subtle and whilst there's a big sounding vibe to the track, it's repetitive hooks and rhythms leave a lot to be desired, and it does leave you wondering where the funk referred to in the title actually is, as it seems to have been mislaid here.

The 'Dub Mix' does actually have some semblance of a groove, with a solid looped hook dropping down over the top for the first few minutes. There's some nice use of melody that begins to creep up, but for some reason this is stopped in its tracks before its had time to find its feet and we are presented with the same groove as the start for the duration of the mix. It seems we took a wrong turn somewhere and have ended up back where we started. Rene, this is another fine mess you've gotten us into!

A very poor release from a label that usually is on the pulse, and we all know that Rene Amesz is capable of far better things. In fact, I need not have written as much as I have here, as I could use two words to sum it up - absolutely shocking.
