Sean Cusick & Medway "Neutrix / Stray Cuts"

Out Now on SAW Recordings

Medway and Sean Cusick get back into the studio for their second outing on Saw Recordings. This is their follow up to the highly acclaimed ‘Fiscal Ep’, which surfaced a year ago. Lush melodies, twisted sounds, and amazing drum programming are just a few of the reasons to find this at your nearest record shop.

‘Neutrix’ floats in with a nice breaky kick, along with dirty high hats. Another layer of drums follow in, though they come in with a filter. They start to build together, slowly, while pieces drift away, and then come back. A clap comes in, and a deep arpeggiated drum sound starts to create a melodic rhythm. Sounds start to move and change together, as a bassline creeps in from underneath. Thick and strong, the bass grows and grows and moves right into a break. Trippy, psychedelic sounds wash in, and find their way into a massive reverbed place. Drum sounds start to fall back in, and a lush synth carries the whole piece back into the breaky drums. ‘Neutrix’ is a very lush, and beautiful song; powered by incredible drum programming and a somber melody. This is a gift for your ears.

‘Stray Cuts’ is a much more rockin’ party tune; taking hints of old school electro and a bit of funk, and smooshing them together. Delayed sounds fall on top of the breaks. A bassline roars in, taking over, and dropping off into a break. Waterdrop sounds fall into a very wet breakdown. Different high hats come in, along with some strange and spooky background sounds. Every sound is now filtered, and moves between the speakers, going side to side. The last sound dropped, is a creepy piano sample that lays nicely inside this eerie cut.

Satoshi Tomiie’s Saw Recordings has always put out challenging material for the progressive world. This is another fine example of eclectic taste, fine production, and twisted sounds, created by two of the industry's best.
