Sidekick "Respond / What You Want"

Yoshitoshi’s YO imprint is onto its second release, following on from where Dave From Dallas left off. Greg Patterson is a producer based in Liverpool, UK and shows how versatile his sound his, switching between high energy peaktime tracks and dark chugging house grooves with ease. This single clearly shows his talents off to the full.

'Respond' starts up with a kick, and a rocking stab follows in. The highs take shape, as the song starts building. A quick drop off, and we start up inside the massive bassline. An earth shattering sample come over the top, and mixes in perfectly with all the sounds, crashing back down, into some very heavy electronic stabs. An ear piercing tone beings the song up and up, and a synth line hovers above lightly. The sample comes over again, for the last quick breath and takes us to the end.

'What You Want' is a slower more brooding track. Layers of fuzzed out drums roll in, as heavy sounds take shape. A spacey synth line carries on top, as an arpeggiated synth follows in, layering together, and making a lovely harmony. All the sounds are dark, eerie and very filtered. There are some quick halts, and changes, but the melody really makes this one move.

Another good release from Yo, already having caused a stir thanks to John Digweed's inclusion of 'Respond' on his Essential Mix from Autumn 2002. Now it's your turn to respond to the hype..
