Snack "Sharona"

Out Now on Kinky Vinyl

The latest release on Kinky Vinyl is a cheeky little cover version of a 70s new wave classic. The Knack's 'My Sharona' has oddly been getting much play in recent months on both tv and radio (including featuring on the Charlie's Angels 2 soundtrack), but on the other side of the fence, Danny Howells has been getting into it, as well as the likes of Darren Emerson, Mike Monday and even Groove Armada. Licensed from Oxyd Records in Italy, watch this party number drop in the funk like no other.

First up is the 'Extended Club Mix' which stays true to the roots of the original with a huge 70's vibe evident throughout. However the update comes with big chunky drum licks and a tight house groove which keeps things moving along at a decent yet funky pace. Filtered effects and careful placement of the vocal maximize the impact, and for that old skool set, this will go down a storm..

'The Punkers' however, go a step further. building the mix around a rippling electro groove, adding synth effects and riffs to add to the vibrant groove. Cut up loops keep the bass rolling, as the vocal is teased in and unleashed through a series of small sections, dropping out to a drum backed solo and then back into the main section of the mix in style. The Hoxton Whores fans amongst you will lap this up.

A gamble for Kinky Vinyl, bordering on the 80s revival of the moment. However, with the following this label has, and the fun factor of this record, its guaranteed to sell purely for it's party flavour. See you on the dancefloor.
