Steiger "Cha Cha"

Out Now on Jukebox In The Sky Records

Simon Rogers is most certainly no stranger to the scene. Producing music for over 10 years throughout various movements and under many guises. More recently however is his work under the alias of Steiger, which caused heads to turn back in 2003 with the release of "Postcard From The Edge". Without a doubt Rogers is one of the most creative producers in the business at the moment, and "Ghost Sector" is in my opinion one of the greatest tracks to see the light of day in 2005. How does "Cha Cha" stand up? Let's take a listen and find out...

Certainly not one to stick to convention, the Original Mix generates interest early on with its unique introduction bringing us into a cheeky bassline. The subtle atmospheric melody generates an absolutely stunning mood, and many other effects help give the composition a truly ingenious feel. Every single tone used sounds fresh, and this easily reinforces the high regard for which I hold this producer in. One word you ask? "Amazing".

And just as we thought things couldn't get any better, they bring in the legend who is Paolo Mojo to tackle the remix. Mojo strips back the track to its raw foundations and creates a subtle groove around this. His trademark cool is imprinted throughout the track, and I can already see this tearing things up during the early hours of the morning. A killer remix of an already killer tune.

This is just about insane. I'm already on overload from the first two versions, and then I see we still have a mix from Shem McCauley himself to go! The mix remains faithful to the Original Mix, but has that certain Slacker touch to it which sets it apart. The percussion is whipped up into a driving 4/4 affair, and some extra elements give it a slightly different feel. The sheer atmosphere of the melody is retained, and for those who found the Original Mix slightly confronting, perhaps this mix would be the way to go!

Jukebox In The Sky is a label which has been home to some amazing releases such as "Looky Thing', "Best Boyfriend", and "Goddam Noize". "Cha Cha" is the next name to be added to the list, and is most certainly deserving of being up with the rest of Jukebox's hot releases. Everything about the Original Mix truly blew me away, and Paolo Mojo has thrown down perhaps one of his most solid remixes ever, working amazing justice on the Original Mix. Slacker's Mix wraps things up perfectly, and this track is most certainly going to be finding its way into many of my sets for the rest of the year and beyond.
